課程概述與目標(Course Overview and Goals)：This course is about the selection of materials and processes in product design. Firstly, the mechanical design processes of the machine elements will be discussed. A systematic procedure for selection materials and processes, leading to the subset which best matches the requirements of a design. This procedure which allows the identification, from among the full range of materials and processes available to the engineer, of the subset most likely to perform well in a given application and for identifying the process by which the shape can be made. The approach of this course emphasizes design with materials and its property rather than materials science, though the underlying science is used to help with the structuring and in developing criteria for selection.
